Job Announcement:
Family Support Counselor
Foster Care

Part-Time: 10-15 hours per week                                            Rate: $12.0192 per hour

Specific Responsibilities:  Accountable to Program Manager.  Responsible for counseling and case management services to those youth and families as assigned.

Duties:

  1. Adhere to and uphold the rigorous standards of SDYS as mandated by its mission, purpose, guiding principles and standards of quality.  Participate in their refinement.
  2. Acquire knowledge of the role and responsibility of the SDYS Board of Directors and stay current.
  3. Participate and implement volunteer system as appropriate.  Supervise and evaluate volunteers as assigned. 
  4. Assist in updating agency policies and procedures. Carry agency big picture and stay current on agency activities.
  5. Maintain data collection and contract compliance of records as required.  Ensure that services are provided and documentation is completed as outlined by the Treatment Team(s).
  6. Maintain a good working knowledge of various cognitive and behavioral interventions to be utilized with youth.
  7. Provide intensive counseling to foster youth.
  8. Provide intensive support for foster family.
  9. Follow all legal and ethical guidelines pertaining to the treatment of youth and families as per the state and county requirements (e.g. Child Abuse Reporting Duty, Confidentiality, Grievance Procedures, Serious Incident Reporting).
  10. Provide transportation for department as assigned.
  11. Maintain a minimum of 20 hours of Direct Services training per year (as per your start date),   eight of which must be in Cultural Competency.
  12. Maintain confidentiality and privacy standards of service partner protected health information and other applicable information and material in accordance to agency and center policies, and applicable regulations and laws including HIPAA.
  13. Participate in implementing agency's resource development plan as appropriate.
  14. Maintain warm, welcoming office grounds and facilities.
  15. Maintain a working knowledge of MIS equipment. 

Qualifications:  Associates degree in Social Sciences and two and half years experience working with emotionally disturbed children in an institutional setting or a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or social-service related field, with six months counseling or case-management experience with emotionally disturbed children in an institutional setting.  Experience with Foster Care system, Wrap-Around Service delivery model, and knowledge of applicable community resources helpful.  Must possess excellent oral and written skills; work well autonomously and with multiple people/disciplines.  Must be computer literate.  Must have reliable vehicle, relevant auto insurance, a clean driving record, and willing to drive throughout San Diego County (mileage reimbursement available).  Willing to go through clearance process (Hire is pending the results of appropriate clearances).  Willing to maintain a flexible work-schedule.
