JOB DESCRIPTION
Community Outreach Specialists – Promotora –Bilingual Required
Reports to the Program Manager and the Division Director
Non-Exempt, 40 hours per week

Salary Range:                     Annual:  $25,000 - $32,000               Hourly:  $12.02 - $15.39
Benefits:                              Include Health, Dental, Vision Insurance, and 13 Holidays and 18 paid time off in the 1st year.

Duties: 

  1. Adhere to and uphold the rigorous standards of SDYS as mandated by its mission, purpose, guiding principles and standards of quality. 
  2. Responsible for outreach in a culturally appropriate manner to community members and families in their community, school or home.
  3. Partner with parents of families in high risk, low socio-economic communities with a high concentration of ethnic minorities, including Asian and Pacific Islanders, Latinos, and Chaldean and other Middle-Eastern refugees/immigrants.
  4. Work with the community, including the school, to determine the needs of families and provide culturally competent services in the home that focus on family wellness, strengthening resilience, and helping families make connections with other services and supports.
  5. Provide wellness activities and community referrals that support and connect the family to activities and resources.
  6. Work with families to reduce disparities and stigma in accessing mental health services.
  7. Participate on the School Oversight Team.
  8. Provide the linkage between the school prevention activities and the family partnership program.      
  9. Remain culturally sensitive and respectful in all client and staff interactions.
  10. Identify individual/family strengths that can be applied to overcome identified family challenges that prevent/hinder the family from maintaining a safe home environment for their youth.
  11. Assist family in identifying goals and specific methods to achieve their goals.
  12. Provide support in the form of reflective listening, emotional support, strengths identification, challenge identification, and solution seeking as needed.
  13. Participate in staff meetings, supervision, staff and County trainings, and other meetings as required.
  14. Participate in various meetings including the Family-Youth Council of the Roundtable. 
  15. Maintain confidentiality and privacy standards of service partner protected health information and other applicable information an material in accordance to agency policies, applicable regulations and law, including HIPAA. 

Qualifications: Must have direct experience as a consumer or caregiver of a consumer of children’s mental health services.  Bilingual (English and Spanish/Tagalog/Arabic) required.  Able to work in a diverse environment and demonstrate cultural competence.  Able to obtain certification in CPR and First Aid.  Must have reliable vehicle and relevant auto insurance, plus a clean driving record (mileage reimbursed).  Must be computer literate.  Some availability after 5:00 PM to meet client needs.  Employment offer will be subject to clearances which may include fingerprinting, background checks, and drug testing.
