Independent Living Skills

The Independent Living Skills program is designed to help young people in the East and North Central Regions become self-sufficient as they are transitioning out of Foster Care and moving into their adult lives. Each participant of the program is given support and encouraged to complete their high school diploma or acquire a General Education Diploma (GED) and ultimately be enrolled in college, vocational programs, and/or be employed with have a stable place to live.

About our Independent Living Skills (ILS)Program
Anyone 16 or older who is in a foster home, group home, or relative's home, and is receiving AFDC-Foster Care funds, is eligible to join the ILS program.

  • The ILS Curriculum:  ILS presents weekly classes and monthly workshops covering a variety of topics, including money management, employment and career options, housing, education, and personal growth.
  • Community Forums and Events: These special offerings are designed to teach foster youth the skills they will need to be self-sufficient as adults.
  • Computer Lab: Our lab offers skill building and research opportunities
  • Drop-in Center: A safe place to go for recreation and socialization
  • Case Management: This service provides individuals support as they work to find a job, apply for college and financial aid, rent an apartment, pay bills, and meet other personal goals.
 

Last year, 308 youth received our training to increase their Independent Living Skills!
