SDYS Shows Pride For Our Community  The “Best Feet Forward Committee”, SDYS’ cultural competency committee, showed our community support by participating in the 35th Annual Pride Parade. Staff, youth, volunteers, friends and family joined together and walked alongside our SDYS float on Saturday, July 18th. This year’s handmade float was a collaboration of creativity from our staff and the youth we serve.

Storefront Youth Homeless Shelter Receives a Home Make-Over On April 25th the Downtown Rotary and the Uptown Rotary met at the Storefront for their “Rotarian at Work Day”, a coordinated day of service. The two Rotary clubs joined forces to re-vamp our youth homeless shelter. While the Downtown Rotary spent the day landscaping the front of our building, the Uptown Rotary repainted our night shelter bathrooms and did a dream board with the teens. A delicious donated lunch from the Terra Restaurant was enjoyed by the Rotary members, our youth and staff. The Uptown Rotary also made a generous gift of $1,500 to help with the Storefront’s everyday needs and recreation program.  We are so grateful for the Rotarians’ support, hard work and kindheartedness.  The “Rotarian at Work Day” has made our shelter extremely welcoming for the youth, staff and visitors.

 

Walter returns to San Diego On May 1st, 2008, Walter Philips, Executive Director of San Diego Youth Services, set off from St. Augustine, Florida on a 3000 mile coast to coast bicycle ride to raise money for the youth of San Diego.  “This ride was about the kids and making a difference for them.
