Transition Age Youth (TAY) Academy
Academy provides a safe, inclusive, youth-led environment planned at five
locations throughout San Diego County. The program is a collaborative effort
between SDYS, YMCA, and South Bay Community Services to offer resources and
give support to transition aged youth (ages 14-25). TAY Academy is designed to
be a one-stop center for comprehensive services and support on their journey to
independence and self-sufficiency. Each center offers skill-development
workshops, fitness, nutrition, and educational classes. There are also support
groups, leadership opportunities, fun activities, and connection coaches
on-site. TAY Academy is a “HUB” for transition age youth in accessing
resources, focusing on environmental and personal safety. TAY Academy is
dedicated to serving at-risk youth in a manner which is knowledgeable of, and
sensitive to, the trauma occurring in their lives. Youth from all interest
groups and cultural backgrounds are welcome at each center.

Thank You IKEA
In 2016, TAY Academy was the
recipient of the IKEA Room Makeover challenge. They redid the computer lab with
new desks, conference table, closet, paint, and shelves. IKEA also provided new
furniture for the TV room which included kid size chairs and a desk, and new
shelves for the pantry!
Thank You IFMA
IFMA decorates TAY Academy every
year for the holidays. They provide two trees, ornaments, build a fireplace,
and make the building look festive and comfy.
Thank You Junior League
Junior League of San Diego has been a huge asset to TAY Academy. They
have provided clothes, food, hosted different holiday parties including a
laundry day for some of our families, trainings, painting of the facility, a
shed, baby items, included us in summits and community events, and most
recently stocked and decorated the kitchen and dining room for Redwood.
Thank You Human Rights Campaign
Rights Campaign provided us with hundreds of bags filled with hygiene products,
blankets, and snacks. They also recently painted some of the walls at our new
Redwood location helping to make the place feel like home.
Thank you County Employees Charitable Organization (CECO)
Thank you CECO for making the dream of our sound studio come to life at SDYS TAY
Academy. The youth will be able to put their poems and thoughts to
music for years to come.
