Vision Achievement Mentoring Partnership(VAM) Coordinator
Golden Hills Youth Center

 

Full-time:  $31,000 per year plus excellent benefits

 

Specific Responsibilities:  Accountable to the Program Manager for the recruitment,

training and support of Mentor Managers and Volunteers, and support to sub-contractors.  The Coordinator will work in collaboration with other agencies in developing and implementing curriculum for Mentor Managers and for ensuring the day-to-day service provision of the project.

 

Duties:

  1. Coordinate activities that adhere to and uphold the rigorous standards of SDYS as mandated by its mission, purpose, guiding principles and standards of quality.
  2. Acquire knowledge of the role and responsibility of the SDYS Board of Directors and stay current.
  3. Participate and implement volunteer system as appropriate.
  4. Mentor youth of all ages.
  5. Assist in updating agency policies and procedures.
  6. Carry agency big picture.  Stay current on agency activities.
  7. Maintain data collection and contract compliance of records as required.
  8. Create and maintain forms appropriate and applicable to program.
  9. Assist in the development and implementation of the curriculum for staff and volunteers.
  10. Participate in collaboration, program and agency staff meetings, planning functions and trainings.
  11. Ensure contract compliance through audits of collaboratives.  Conduct quarterly audits for subcontractors.
  12. Plan and facilitate learning meetings for mentor manager(s).
  13. Provide supervision to Mentor-Manager(s) and volunteers.
  14. Provide assessment of each youth and match with appropriate mentor in group setting.
  15. Work with Mentor Managers to facilitate youth life visions.
  16. Plan and conduct trainings and presentations on pregnancy prevention, parenting skills, Independent living skills, mediation and alcohol and drug prevention.
  17. Maintain linkages with police, probation, and other agencies for continual service of clients, including presentations to other service agencies.
  18. Conduct youth and family mediations.
  19. Participate in recreational activities with high-risk youth.
  20. Work in conjunction with Youth Center team to provide wrap around services to high risk youth.
  21. Meet assigned scope of service for VAM project.  This includes maintenance of case files, and accurate and timely submissions of required reports.
  22. Facilitate VAM Partnership meetings, staff meetings and component meetings.
  23. Coordinate trainings as needed.
     

Qualifications:   Mentoring and juvenile-diversion experience required.  Must have extensive knowledge of gangs in the Central San Diego area, experience working with high risk youth, and experience facilitating recreational activities for youth. Bilingual/ bicultural (English/Spanish) desired.  Ability to supervise and mentor staff and youth of all ages.  Bachelor's degree in human services and two year experience working with youth.  Must be willing to use own, properly insured, transportation on the job.  Job requires weekend and evening hours.  Willing to participate in background check, including drug testing (hire pending results).
