San Diego Futures Foundation
and San Diego Youth Services
partner to build futures for at-risk youth

For nearly 10 years, San Diego Futures has partnered with SDYS providing computers for staff and incentives for youth in our programs. Through this partnership, SDYS has been able to significantly reduce administrative costs and maximize the use of agency dollars to serve more youth and families. Thanks to San Diego Futures, hundreds of at-risk youth have received computers to assist them with their education, career planning and life development.

A Special Gift Brings Hope to Homeless Youth in San Diego

A $400,000 bequest is left to San Diego Youth Services’ Take Wing Transitional Housing Program in loving memory of long-time committed philanthropist, Jean D. Tucker (December 31, 1924 to April 26, 2008).  Plans are underway to purchase an affordable housing facility for transitional age youth (16 to 24 yr olds); out on their own and homeless.

Jean supported many charities throughout her life and her generosity should be a beacon for us all.  Jean’s family members recall "Her gifts to charity were constant and frequently meant she had to do without something for herself. In Jean's mind charitable giving was not enough, she was deeply committed to the idea of personal action and found innumerable ways to help those around her. Mentoring younger people was her special gift and she was always interested and ready to provide thoughtful support."

Through this bequest, her legacy will continue to bring hope and support to homeless young adults giving them a chance to transition to independence! Check back for updates on the Jean D. Tucker project.

The Cox Kids Foundation Celebrates their 10th Anniversary by Granting SDYS $10,000!

The Cox Kids Foundation awarded SDYS $10,000 to support our transitional housing programs.  This gift will provide mental health services for youth to transition successfully to independence. Thanks to The Cox Kids foundation, our youth will have a safe environment to address the issues in their lives that often prevent them from moving forward and focusing on the steps to self-sufficiency.

In celebration of The Cox Kids Foundation 10th anniversary, San Diego Youth Services was one of 10 San Diego nonprofits that received a grant through the Open Grant program. Through the Cox Kids Foundation, more than 1,000 Cox Communications employees donate funds from their paychecks. The funds are matched 100 % by the company to support local children and families in need in the areas of health, education and social services. Over the past 10 years nearly $3 million has been raised to support San Diegans in need. For more information, visit http://www.coxkidsfoundation.org/.

From all of us at SDYS, Thank you Cox Kids Foundation for the continued support!

Thanks to the generous support of Staples and Boma International, in collaboration with Bartocci Development; Equity Office Properties & American Technologies, Inc, SDYS youth will be going back to school with the necessary supplies to succeed this school year. Forty back packs and various school supplies were donated to the Golden Hill Youth Center. The Youth Center staff and generous donors helped get the youth excited for the school year with a "Back to School Party". The youth enjoyed food and drinks, played fun games and were given a variety of school supplies and backpacks. The youth selected from an array of multi-colored and character backpacks including High School Musical, Dora the Explorer and Hannah Montana.
